50 years after the Supreme Court decision struck down "separate but equal," scholastic opportunities for African-Americans have expanded. But inequality remains a major problem.The barriers to fulfilling that vision, from family breakdown to persistent residential and educational segregation, remain formidable. Although there is a policy that says about being equal, the white people are still dominant to those who are black.
The Brown ruling had established that discrimination was illegal in public schools by the supreme court.
- The ruling had made segregation illegal and a crime against the constitution of the country.
The challenges that the Blacks faced in overcoming discrimination in the public schools were that they had to face bullying in the schools.
Also the whites felt dominant over the blacks. Due to this the black people had to do extra in order to prove themselves and their capabilities.
They did this to gain respect and to be accepted.
