The following statements describe the endocrine system:
1. It helps regulate mood- The endocrine system regulates the release of hormones and
neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin and cortisol in human bodies. These hormones and
neurotransmitters secreted by the endocrine system in turn affect our mood by
increasing or decreasing levels of happiness, rewarding seeking behavior, stress, etc.
2. It helps regulate reproductive processes- The endocrine system consists of reproductive glands in males and females. In females, the hormones estrogen and progesterone secreted by reproductive glands (ovaries) regulate menstrual cycles, egg fertilization and reproduction. Whereas, in males, reproductive glands (testes) regulate sex hormones, such as testosterone, sexual arousal and sperm count.
3. It helps regulate growth and development- The hormone known as human growth hormone (HGH) is released by the endocrine system. HGH is responsible for growth, an individual's height and development of the physical body, especially during childhood and up to early adulthood. HGH is also responsible for cell reproduction and regeneration in humans.
4. It secretes hormones into the bloodstream- The endocrine system functions primarily by releasing hormones in the bloodstream. The endocrine system consists of various glands around the body, that have their own respective functions. Each of these glands secrete different hormones in the bloodstream. The different glands that comprise the endocrine system in human bodies include: the hypothalamus (in the brain), pituitary glands, thyroid gland, parathyroids, adrenal glands, reproductive glands and pancreas.
The statements that describe the endocrine system are:
- It helps regulate mood.
- It helps regulate reproductive processes.
- It helps regulate growth and development.
- It secretes hormones into the bloodstream.
ENDOCRINE SYSTEM:
- The endocrine system is a system of living organisms that sends message via chemical means. The chemical messengers are called hormones, which are secreted by ductless glands.
- Endocrine system helps living organisms perform the following functions:
- It helps regulate mood- The endocrine system regulates the release of hormones and neurotransmitters such as dopamine, oxytocin and cortisol, which controls mood changes in the body.
- It helps regulate reproductive processes- The endocrine system consists of reproductive glands in males (testes) and females (ovary), which release reproductive hormones like oestrogen, testosterone etc that regulates reproductive processes.
- It helps regulate growth and development- Endocrine system consists of pituitary gland that secretes growth hormones necessary for growth and development.
- It secretes hormones into the bloodstream- The endocrine system functions primarily by releasing hormones into the bloodstream since they do not operate via ducts.
