Sun Yatsen is known as the "father of modern China" for his role in leading the 1911 revolution against the Manchu Dynasty and ending imperial rule. Sun was a medical doctor who recognized the need to establish a republican government to aid the lives of his countrymen. Sun raised funds from Chinese nationals living overseas and successfully overthrew the dynasty. He spent the remainder of his years engaging in political and military strategy to help unify the country.
