Before telling you the direct answer let me tell you a little bit about history so that the answer will make sense.
In 1862 the "Homestead Act" was signed by the actual president at that time, Abraham Lincoln. The “Homestead Act” ran a program of public land grants to small farmers with the idea to provide new opportunities to many small family farmers.
This ACT gave 160 acres to the head of any family to try farming in the land for five years, after that time, the farmer was supposed to be able to prove his/her homestead and then pay an $18 filing fee for a certificate in order for them to receive a deed to the land.
Many farmers couldn’t handle the farming and gave up before completing the five years and if this happened, the land would return back to the government and was also offered to the public again. While many people were looking forward to beginning a new life on this land, others took advantage of the program and the land was purchased by land speculators who were offering to pay in cash.
To somehow stop, solve or regulate this, the American Government forced American Indians to leave the land so that. This is how the conflicts were solved.
