False.
After the Spanish-American War, America wanted to make Philippines as part of
other colonized country by signing the treaty (of Paris) with Spain. Emilio
Aguinaldo (the first Philippine president) objected this idea which led to the Philippine-American
War which effected casualties on both parties. In 1900, William Howard Taft
(the US future president), advertised policies that hopefully would attract
Filipino elites and antis against Aguinaldo’s claim for independence. However
through the Jones Act, US finally gave the independence to the Filipinos as
promised on 1946.
