When Andrew Carnegie wrote the article “Gospel of Wealth”,
he was addressing the problem of wealth inequality. The article illustrates the social responsibility
of the rich and suggests that they should reallocate their excess well in a sympathetic
and sensible way. A good example of this
was through giving endowments that improve the lives of people and help them
better themselves and those around them.
Carnegie himself set up libraries that people can use for their
benefit. He also required that the local
government must issue and ordinance to create a tax to maintain the library
after the intial grant was used in the building educational materials for the
library.
