The audience in Shakespeare's era would have assumed that B. Witchcraft would gave caused the strange elements in Macbeth. In the beginning of the play, we are introduced to the tree witches who foretell the fates of the characters and as they all come true, it would appear that only (dark) magic could cause the events and not Greed, Vengeance, or Religion.
