The Serbian authorities at the end of '80s and the start of '90s used populistic kind of nationalism to increase their popularity among a poor citizens. Meanwhile, the similar processes were happening in the other former Yugoslav republics, primarily Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. When Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia decided to separate and stop being the part of Yugoslavia, Serbian authorities wanted to stop them and soon the civil war started. The situation was very complex, and politicians encouraged and than manipulated nationalistic feelings of all nations that lived in ex-Yugoslavia.
