The Westward expansion was one of the key events that made the United States into the country it is nowadays. According to President Jefferson, the possession of land was key for the development of the common American citizen, as it could be able to work on it and gain profit. This resource was abundant in the territories out west and it was the promise of lands and greater wealth was the motivator behind the initial expeditions that occurred at the time.
Settlers were clearly not content with what they had back West and aimed for a better life for their loved ones and them. However, embarking on this trip would mean leaving your current life, which includes your current job, your relatives and friends. This is is a hard decision to take which required the strong desire from the settlers, who decided to leave their past lives behind in the search of a better future.
