We can say that in ecological succession, each new community is paving a way for new community. The different types of ecological succession exists during different phases of an ecosystem, and depends on how developed that ecosystem is. Succession that begins in new habitat, uninfluenced by pre-existing community is called primary succession whereas succession that follows disruption of a pre-existing community is called secondary succession.
