Mitochondria is the structure
The structure or organelle responsible for breaking down sugar molecules to supply energy is called the mitochondria. These organelles lead a semi-independent life inside the life of the cell. They take sugar from the cell and give back ATP in return. ATP or adenosine triphosphate releases energy when it breaks down to lose a phosphate group and form adenosine diphosphate. Mitochondria is passed down from mother to child.
