a water drum in the shape of a rectangular prism measures 5m by 4 m by 2 m. It is completely full of water. The water is siphoned into a cylindrical tank of diameter 3 m. How far up the side of the tank will the water reach?

Respuesta :

First of all, the definition of siphoned according to the online dictionary is:
"a tube used to convey liquid upwards from a reservoir and then down to a lower level of its own accord. Once the liquid has been forced into the tube, typically by suction or immersion, flow continues unaided.'

LOL, the definition doesn't make any difference. Let's actually solve the questions now.

First, find the volume of the water drum which is 5x4x2= 40m^2. (remeber it is "completely full of water")

Second, divided it by (1.5)^2 x(pi). Essentially you are dividing the volume of water by the surface area of one side of a cylinder. (note: I square 1.5 since you use the radius not the diameter for the calculation)
