Which transfer of energy occurs when ice cubes are placed in water that has a temperature of 45°C?
(1) Chemical energy is transferred from the ice to the water.
(2) Chemical energy is transferred from the water to the ice.
(3) Thermal energy is transferred from the ice to the water.
(4) Thermal energy is transferred from the water to the ice.

Respuesta :

The answer to this question would be: (4) Thermal energy is transferred from the water to the ice.Assuming that the melting point of the ice is 0 °celcius, then the water is having more temperature than the ice, which means the water has more energy. The energy will move to the lower side. In this case, it would flow from the water into the ice.
The energy should be thermal energy since this only cause the ice to melt. No chemical reaction happens so there is no chemical energy
