Two classmates are preparing research papers and are organizing their information on index cards.

Keiko is using 3 in. x 5 in. cards.

William is using 4 in. x 6 in. cards.

A. Set up a proportion to determine if the students are using index cards that are similar. Are they similar?

B. A third student, Joel, is writing his information on paper that measures 12 in. x 8 in.

Is this similar to either Keiko's or William's cards? Show your setup and work to support your answer.

Respuesta :

A) Set a proportion to determine if the students cards are proportional.

3/5 = 4/6
Let us get these to a common denominator.

3*6= 18
5*6= 30

18/30

4*5= 20
6*5= 30

20/30

Our answers are not proportional because 20/30 does not equal 18/30, making them not similar.

B) Joel's paper size is 12 * 8 in.

So our setup is:-

12/8 ≠ 3/5
12/8 ≠ 4/6

That is because the numerator is bigger than the denominator, which makes these not proportional to our other ratios.

the answer is 3/5 and 2/3 because the other person did not simplify
