Having a non-native species released into the wild risks the chance of it becoming invasive and possibly harming the population of other native prey species. It could also release parasites or illnesses it brought with it from its native land, which could infect the native species who have no way for their bodies to fight it/aren't immune to it.
Invasive species can be harmful to wildlife if a new species is introduced into an ecosystem as it may not have any control or predators. It can spread quickly by breeding and can take over the area.
As the native species may not have defenses against the invasive species and might not be able to compete with the invasive species due to absence of any predators that feed on native species.
The invasive species can also have indirect threats. They can alter the food web by replacing or destroying local food sources. They can also reduce the diversity of native species.
Hence we can say that the snakes can prove to be harmful.
