The Ottoman Empire ad many laws during its existence. They had a mix between the Shariah - Islamic law - and kanun - the tabulation of administrative regulations.
Later with the rise of the Ottoman Empire and the rule of people that different cultural and religious background, the ottomans elevated the Kanun into a different code of laws separated from the Shariah. The kanun was separated into two sections, the first dealt with government and military and the second with taxes and peasantry.
