The Treaty of Paris was signed on September 3, 1783 between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the United States and ended the War of Independence of the United States. Through it was recognized the independence of the Thirteen Colonies like the United States of America and the new nation was granted the entire territory north of Florida, south of Canada and east of the Mississippi River. The 31st parallel was set as the southern border between the Mississippi and the Apalachicola River.
