American Indians were creative. ... Europeans carried a hidden enemy to the Indians: new diseases. Native peoples of America had no immunity to the diseases thatEuropean explorers and colonists brought with them. Diseases such as smallpox, influenza, measles, and even chicken pox proved deadly to American Indians.

Native American tribes became very interested in European technology after they made contact with settlers. Indian hunters were willing to trade their goods to their goods such as furs for European colored cloth. They were also willing to acquire firearms and gradually shifted the use of bows and arrows to this technology. This would also create a dependency from Native Americans towards European goods.
