emma has 15 cookies and eats 2 cookies per day evan has 45 cookies and eats 8 each day how would you write and solve an equation to figure out after how many days they will have the same number of cookies

Respuesta :

lets say cookies = x and days = y.

2x times y = 15.

8x times y = 45.

Solution:

we are given that

Emma has 15 cookies and eats 2 cookies per day.

So the number of cookies left after n days can be written as

[tex] Emma=15-2n [/tex]

Evan has 45 cookies and eats 8 each day.

So the number of cookies left after n days can be written as

[tex] Evan=45-8n [/tex]

Number of days after which they will have equal number of cookies can be found as below

[tex] 15-2n=45-8n [/tex]

[tex] 8n-2n=45-15 [/tex]

[tex] 6n=30 [/tex]

[tex] n=5 [/tex]

Hence both will have equal number of cookies after 5 days.
