If there was no blockade, the Confederacy would have gotten foreign aid from France or others. That would increase their imports and given them more supplies. They would have also been able to export cotton, their major crop, for money. The blockade stopped them from doing that and basically choked them into defeat, that is why it was called the Anaconda Plan.
If there was no blockade of the confederate coastline, the confederate's would have been able to get more supplies that would help them to fight back and win the war.
This would have enabled the South to win the war. This strategy that the Union army used against them was really a great cause for their loss at the war front.
The Union blocked the coastlines of the confederates in order to stop them from exporting their cotton and also to stop them from getting aids in the forms of war materials from foreign countries.
