The newborn infant has a number of newborn reflexes such as sucking, grasping, and rooting, which aid in his or her survival.
What are newborn reflexes?
Newborn reflex is the involuntary action that a newborn performs without any effort. For example, when a finger is inserted inside a baby's mouth, it is natural he/she starts sucking it without even thinking.
Similar is the case with grasping of finger when offered. These reflexes gradually disappear when the baby starts growing.
Rooting is the process where a baby gets ready to suck the milk. This helps the baby in finding the location of the mammary gland or the milk bottle.
