Gregor is surprised that his father looks so different now that he has a job. He stands up straight, wears a nice uniform and seems to be more confident and authoritative than before. His eyes seem more intense, his clothes are tight-fitting and his hair is combed.
Before Gregor's transformation, his father had been incapacitated after a business failure, and had depended on Gregor for sustenance. After being forced to go back to work, his transformation is remarkable. However, his feelings toward Gregor are not any kinder or warmer.
