He is not amused that he was able to attend his own mother's wedding, and neither is he grateful that his mother did not have to remain a widow for long. In fact, his mother's remarriage shatters Hamlet opinion of women as he will later claim "Frailty, thy name is woman".

Hamlet laments his father's death and would even contemplate suicide if it was not a sin. He is disgusted with this quick marriage because he remembers how his mother seemed to love his father and now she has married his father's brother in less than two months after the king's death. This disgust is mentioned through the allusion to the banquet: the leftovers from the funeral feast would have been convenient for the wedding dinner.
