Taproot with herbaceous stem. The taproot is what is under or starts at soil level and grows into the grown in a solid shoot, like a dicon (the white radish) or like a carrot. The herbaceous stem describes the leafy greens that are above soil level. Fibrous roots are spread out. A woody stem would be more stalk-like and harder.
