What prevents odysseus and his men from leaving when the cyclops goes out in the morning?

The cyclops rolls a large stone over the opening each time he leaves, which was too large and heavy for Odysseus and his men to move. To get out Odysseus knew that he had to manipulate the cyclops in opening it for them without killing the cyclops, or losing too much men.

Odysseus refuses his men's request because his curiosity gets the best of him and he wants to stay to see the cave man. He seals off the cave with a slab of solid rock, hemming in Odysseus and his men.
