In deciding what kinds of questions to ask in their research, sociologists are guided by one or more theoretical approaches. The theory/ theories that sociologists use to guide their research helps them shape relevant research questions that they can seek to find the answers to, through their research. Furthermore, the theory/ theories chosen also shape and back up the explanations for sociologists' research findings.
