Leading countries of Europe during the late 1800s and early 1900s were competing between them for the supremacy of the possession of colonies in the rest of the world. Colonies were sources of energetic, natural and alimentary resources and these resources began to scarce in Europe due to the expansion of urban metropolis. The rising of nationalisms was the other detonator for interregional competitions because after french revolution and emergence of big cities, most European dynasties and royal families were down at heel or even in danger of extinction.
