Mario had a 5 cups of smooth peanut butter in a jar the morning. At 10:00 am. he used 1/2 of a cup for a snack. At lunchtime, he used 1 1/4 cups for sandwich. At 4:00 pm, he spread 1/3 of a cup onto some celery for his sister. How much peanut butter did Mario have at the end of the day?

he had 2 11/12 left.  you have to change the demoninators so they are all the same.  the least common denominator is 12

1/2=6/12

1 1/4=1 3/12

1/3=4/12

altogether he used 2 1/12 so he had 2 11/12 left
