Intellectual activity is simply learning about the world you live in. It helps to better understand everything so you become less fearful of things that are unknown. If this is combined with Christianity, two things will become know, the world as it is and what happens to people when they die. In the past, a lot of Christians didn't have much interest in this aside from the apostle Paul.
