The one characteristic of the protein that would support this hypothesis would be protein that contains helix-turn-helix motif and zinc-finger motifs. Transcriptional activator proteins like GAL4 help in the initiation of transcription rate of genes by combining the sequences in the regulatory promoter region. This kind of interactions between proteins is called as activation target.
