You would put 9 times v because you are multiplying it to the 9 and you do not know what v is then you would divide it by 3 and get your answer so for example if you should have gotten 9 times v = 72 then 72 divided by 3 = 24 and 24 divided by 3 = 8

The goal to solving this problem is finding the value of v by isolating it on one side, meaning that you must rid of the constant terms on that particular side of the equation. Since v + 9 is being divided by 3, you must first eliminate the 3 by multiplying that side of the equation by 3, and whatever you do to one side of an equation you must do it to the other side as well, so you also multiply 8 by three. This leaves the equation as v + 9=24. Now you must cancel out the 9 that’s one the side of the equation with the variable, so subtract both sides of the equation by 9. This leaves you with v=15. Hope this helps.
