Why?

Mendeleev published his Periodic Table in 1869. He ordered elements on the basis of their chemical properties. While he was placing elements in his periodic table, he predicted that there were some elements misssing, and even estimated their properties.

He called those elements eka-aluminum (Galium, discovered in 1875), eka-boron (scandium, discovered in 1879), and eka-silicon (Germanium, discovered in 1886). The discovery of these elements that Mendeleev predicted years before, confirmed the validity of his Periodic Table.
