An electromagnet works or turns into a magnet when an electric current passes through it, causing it to produce a magnetic field. When they alternating current is passed through opposing
pairs of magnets, a rotating magnetic field is created, which "induces"
(creates) a magnetic field in the motor's rotor, causing it to spin.

Every electric motor consists of a shaft, an electromagnet and a magnet.
The electromagnet is coiled with many wires connected to external electric current.
On passing of electric current to the coils, the electromagnet gets magnetized and depending upon the poles of the electromagnet, the shaft will be rotating in clockwise or anticlockwise direction.
If the poles of the electromagnet and the magnet are like poles to each other, then the magnet will be pushing the electromagnet outward leading to turning of the motor shaft in clockwise direction.
Similarly, when the direction of current get reversed as an AC current is used, the poles of the electromagnet and the magnet will be anti-clockwise to each other leading to attract of electromagnet to the magnet. This will also lead to rotating of the motor shaft in anticlockwise direction.
