The Oath of Allegiance is the final step to become a U.S. citizen. Such action has existed since the first naturalization law in 1790, and it is established by law in Section 337 in the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).
In general, in the Oath people support and defend the Constitution, renounce to all type of allegiance and fidelity to a foreign place, and accept that he or she accepts to bear arms on behalf of the United States, perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces and perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law.
