Can somebody help me out with this problem? You don't need to tell me the answer just help me work it out please.

Hey!

So first, you need to isolate the y variable:

sqrt 2y = 9   ==>  subtract 3 from both sides. 

Now, raise both sides of the equation to the power of 2 to eliminate the square root:

2y = 81

Solve for y by dividing both sides by 2.
