Louis XVI was an autocrat that ruled France.
Louis XVI (1754-1793) succeeded to the French throne when his grandfather died (Louis XV), at the time he was only 20 years old and considered by many still immature for the crown. His reign lasted 18 years until the culmination of the French Revolution of 1789, which resulted in a great victory that abolished the monarchy. The following year he and his wife were guillotined on charges of counterrevolution.
