Adapted or acquired immunity is what he has gained. He wasn't born with the ability to fight chickenpox nor was he recently exposed to it, showing an active body, or that he has antibodies currently fighting the disease. His type was gained years ago due to exposure and fighting of the disease, and now he he some nominal but not perfect, protection from getting the disease again.
