so we need to form an equation to help in the calculations.

1 mile = 5,280 feet

x miles = 1,333 feet

Where x is the depth of the lake in miles.

x= 1,333

cross multiply the values to give:

1,333 = 5,280x

1,333/5,280 = x

0.252 = x

The lake is approximately 0.25 miles (or  quarter mile) in depth.

Since the depth is less than 1 mile , then our answer cannot be greater than 1 mile, but has to be less than that, so we are correct.
