It is important to
know people before forming an opinion about them because what we see is not
always what it seems. People are bounded by stereotypes or prejudice due to
their previous experiences or the images brought on by the media. For example, a woman is deemed to be a good
person because he or she always goes to church and is very active with church
activities. However, she may be abusing her children and doing acts of violence
on them. This example may be too extreme so here’s another one. Let’s say you
meet a person who always wears black, has plenty of piercings and tattoos and
does not smile so much. People readily think that he is a bad person and does
not have a decent job. But actually, that person has a stable job, is a good
father/husband and contributes to society. You will never really know unless
you get to know them in person.
