There are many advantages to planting cotton compared to
other crops. Here are some:
1. It is a water intensive crop, requiring 6.4 megaliters/hectare.
Compared to rice which requires 12.3 megaliters/hectare.
2. All of the parts of the cotton plant are useful.
The most important part is the fiber or lint which is used in making cotton
cloth. Other parts are used in other ways such as linters. These are use for
plastics, explosives and so on.
3. It has so many uses. Household items such as
towels and clothing such as blue jeans use cotton largely.
