The cell theory expanded as microscopes became more sensitive and observational techniques allowed for the viewing of internal cell structures in finer detail. However the original three tenets of the cell theory have remained the same.
Advances in technology such as the invention of the Scanning electron microscope, confocal microscope and the very latest ,the Synchrotron microscope (which can be used to study the cell structures at an atomic level) have helped biologist add 3 more statements to the cell theory, namely:
4.cells contain hereditary information which is passed on during cell division.
5. All cells have the same basic chemical composition.
6. All energy flow of life occurs within cells.
