It should be 4? Both sides have to be equal. The answer to the 4 x (8-3) is 20 because 8-3 = 5 and 4 x 5 = 20. On the other side 4x8 = 32. The missing number in the next set of paranthesis needs to equal the number that will subtract from 32 to make the answer 20... the parathensis should be 4x3 because it = 12.

4 x (8-3) = (4x8) - (4x3)
4 x 5 = 32 - 12
20 = 20
