In 150 words, describe the key differences and similarities between an ancient Greek theater and an English theater.

There are many differences. Greek theater had a chorus, which sang and likely danced. The arrangement of the stage was completely different, featuring a single building with a large entrance on to the stage, a crane to bring divine characters in on a higher level, a dancing area for the chorus, and so on. Actors were all male and performed in masks; there were few actors available for the playwright's use (two or later three could be on stage at a time). Plays were put on at civic/religious festivals, not as standalone productions, and cycles of four plays (three tragedies and a comic satyr play) by the same author were performed. There are many differences between a Greek theatre and an English theatre, as well as many similarities.

One of the most obvious similarities is that in both cases, only men were allowed to act on stage. Another similarity is that the plays presented belonged to two main categories: dramas and comedies. Moreover, open air theatres were common in both cases, and playwrights often achieved great fame. Finally, both used very simple props.

The differences were significant as well. In the case of Greek plays, actors often wore masks that represented the expression that they wanted their face to adopt, while these were less common in England. Moreover, Greek theatre had a stronger religious component. In the case of English theatre, entertainment was the main purpose. Moreover, in England, women were not allowed to attend plays.
