The California Gold Rush which developed between 1848 and 1855 brought approximately 300,000 people to California not only from the rest of the United States but also from abroad. Between 1850 and 1855, the annual production of the metal reached $131 million annually as well as the amount of gold in the world markets increased. From 1840 to 1854, California's gold mines produced more than $300 million.
