A larger object requires more energy to generate velocity. And since you can't lose energy due to the law of conservation of mass, inertia ( an objects resistance in its change of state whether increasing or decreasing in energy) makes it so all that energy that was used to propel the large object needs to be absorbed.

To sum up,
larger objects require more time to stop than small objects because of how much more energy is needed to move them.
