If i had a question like: If y = 2x-3 find the value of y when x= 2

Do i treat X the value of X like 22 or 4. Do i multiply, add, or just insert it.

(It's been a long time since I've done these problems.)

That's is depend from the author of the equation. But most time there is need to multiply value X into constant before.
In other words it look likes
y=2*x-3
