The first farmers learned to grow and raise different kind
of crops in different parts of the world. In the north eastern region, the
farmers were able to grow and raise wheat, barley and peas. Cereals and figs
were known to be grown in Syria during the time of the ice age. In China rice
and millet farming become popular during the same period. People were starting
to settle down into small groups and stopped roaming about as nomads. This was
one important reason behind the cultivation of crops.
