Voltaire followed for most of his adult life to a rationalist religious world interpretation that would be best labelled as deistic. He did not have faith in many of the essential doctrines of Catholicism, the faith of his birth, and certainly he was extremely doubtful of what he measured its illogical elements – which in this case are miracles. Yet, what he utmost severely rejected was the dogmatic nature of the Church which in his view is positioned artificial limits on human intelligent quests. His most famous saying, “Ecrassez I’infame!” which means “crush the famous thing” in English was in allusion to the Catholic Church. But this he did not mean that the Church the aforementioned should be demolished but somewhat that theologians and secretariats contended for things that were conflicting to reason and most prominently helped prejudice.
