to compare, you need to bring them to a common denominator by mupliplying each by the denominator of the other one.

Like this:

$\frac{5*15}{8*15}$=$\frac{75}{120}$


and

$\frac{7*8}{15*8}$=$\frac{56}{120}$

and among the two, 75 is bigger than 56, so the first fraction (5/8) is bigger!
