Find the LCD of the two denominators.
It is 6.
Now multiply both sides of the equation by 6.

6 * (k - 4)/2 - 6 * (k + 6)/3 = 6 * 5

3(k - 4) - 2(k + 6) = 30

3k - 12 - 2k - 12 = 30

k - 24 = 30

k = 54
